Llyngwrill to Tywyn

Today we climbed out of Llyngwrill up a steep lane between the church and its graveyard. The lane meandered all the way to the top, where we gained a beautiful coastal view.

The view from the top – what do you know ? – No Rain

From now on the landscape gently undulated between farms with no particulary steep parts. The farms all have their dogs barking away as we approach and going silent on our departure. The GPS handheld was useful in navigating. After about the 3rd farm we passed by, we are in a lane picking the path up again into a particularly muddy field with a languid horse staring at us as we struggle through deep soft clumps of sodden field. Fortunately that part didn’t last long before we ascended the slope; sat down and had a bite to eat.

Squelch !!

The weather is kinder than the forecast and after having our snack we continued South toward Tywyn.

The landscape is beautiful and we crossed many fields on the way filled with newborn Lambs. Just before we left farmland we had to negotiate a ‘corralled’ exit onto a lane before we could continue our walk. The fact that the exit was a quagmire feet deep in mud left me questioning the attitude of said farm owner to walkers ! It was so deep it came over our walking boots !!

An unnecessary obstacle !

After clearing the farm exit we were on a gravel/tarmac lane leading to what looked like an area of an old military camp judging by the old brickwork bits and pieces and a farm that had very ‘Hangar’ looking barns. A little further our suspicions were confirmed.

Barns Now – Hangers Before

This old army camp was used to accommodate (temporarily) Ugandans expelled by ‘IDI AMIN’ who eventually found their own way and continued their lives in Great Britain.

It was time for a break and sandwich so after approximately a mile we came to a purpose build footbridge across the Dovey and here the river has spreadeagled into a wide plain of ‘watery pools’ as far as the eye could see. We sat on the rivers edge and took our break. No rain today so we consider ourselves very fortunate.

We are near our destination of Tywyn now and after crossing the bridge It was level easy walking to the town.

Day 2 is complete and we’re dry Hoorah !
