Laugharne to Pendine

Miss ‘M’ is still with me but sadly it’s the last day of her stay with me & Forever Friend as we embark on today’s walk from Laugharne to Pendine. A mere 6.3 for miss ‘M’ but enough for me 🙂 As we depart I look back at the Castle which is always worth a look.

Laugharne Castle

Walking out of Laugharne Westward we haven’t gone far when we chat to two gents digging the silt and mud out of what appears to be a slipway. A beautiful Jet Black cat wants to be made a fuss of so I oblige and whilst missing half the conversation with the two gents Miss ‘M’ fills me in , in due course. Well with the estuary being so flat and broad , when the tide is up it comes right into the rear of his garage. The slipway clearance is so he can launch his boat on the high tide this evening. We didn’t get to see the boat unfortunately !

Its Muddy on the shoreline

We leave our two boatmen behind and follow the curve of the estuary for a short way when we enter woodland and start climbing.

The woodland is very pleasant to walk through yet I can’t tell you why it feels that way ! There are plenty of seats along the path which is somewhat unusual over a relatively short distance and as we climb through the woods more of the estuary is visible.

As we level out the enormity of the estuary is apparent.

The mud flats to our right are massive too !

One of the many seats we see appeals and more so later on after we chat to ‘Bob’ at Salthouse farm.

We are also bemused by the gathering at “Llareggub” plaque until we realised what it was about ! – Wicked D.T. !

So we have descended out of the woodland and are heading through fields with the mud flats to our left as we head west. Coming to a farm gate an elderly gent stops his work in the farmyard and approaches us as we start to enter the farm along the footpath. He placed the seat and inscribed the caption. We chatted about our walking adventures, prostate cancer and other things. Earlier we had passed a small pond and a seat on its edge. He taught his children to use a coracle in that pond. Interesting !

Bob was somehow remarkable in his kind and meaningful demeanor, he also took a shine to Miss ‘M’ I teased her about it !

We come to a working quarry and turn right uphill and onto the roadside which we walk for probably a mile or so and much to our delight espied ‘Brook House’ What do you know it opened a café only a few weeks ago. Once I had mastered the gate opening we crossed the road from the field and entered the immaculate NEW café. Miss ‘M’ treated us to coffee and cake. Fabulous 🙂

We cover the last mile or so into Pendine and thats us for today and sadly Walking Buddy ‘Miss M’ has to leave us now until mid summer where we will be on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. That should be good.
