Rhosilli to Broughton
At last I am walking in 2023 having been delayed by health issues. Its good to be out of the four walls and stomping the coast on this walk number 40 in my collection.
The buses in the gower are a law unto themselves. Once I had sussed how they got about and connected I managed to end up at Scurlage awaiting the 118 to Rhosilli which was what I needed to happen. Having left home at 06:15 I was finally on Rhosilli beach at 10:15 enjoying the very fresh sea breeze.

There are a few people about mostly surfers and dog walkers. One couple are touring Wales clockwise and by all account thoroughly enjying themselves in retirement. They were careful with their dog near the random ponies grazing the descent to the beach.

Its breezy and the surf is up and strong enough to whip the sand into your face so its head tucked in and best foot forward. They were only ‘blasts’ so I could observe the scenery and take photos between times.

Its a lovely day and the rain has stopped and I am getting rasther warm with the weatherproof outer layers. I am enjoying the breeze and sense of freedom on this lovely lovely beach. About half way along I find the perfect resting place to ditch the waterproofs and have a bite to eat.

Having replenished the ‘stomach’; its been a while since breakfast, I head for the point at the far end of the beach. There is a small Island which you cannot get onto and I know I have to turn East at the point to follow the coast. Observing my Garmin I know I’m off track but that doesnt matter when there’s all this lovely sand to leave your footprints in. I will have to climb onto the dunes at some point and reconnect with the path to head to my destination at Broughton.

A climb up the dunes now , heading East; puffs me out. Its been a long ‘layoff’. Once on the top you can see the ‘Loughour Estuaty’ in the distance and more interesting coastline to walk soon 🙂 as I head to Broughton.

I would like to be fitter and am tired after what is only a 4.5 Mile walk but nevertheless I am out and exercising and most importantly ‘throwing off’ the ‘winter blues’ I reach the car at Broughton and that’s it for this week.
