Abereiddy to Abercastle

Its Abereiddy to Abercastle today and as long as I don’t have any aberations with the car ’Sat-Nav’ all will be fine. Sometimes there are NO satelites to be seen ! Abereiddy is tiny and access to a narrow but failrly long and rough car park, is by a narrow bridge over the stream entering the beach. Two ‘female seniors’ have just been for a swim and are chatting happily at the rear of their vehicle ,wrapped up from the cold breeze. It’s a climb out, as usual from this ‘cute’ little cove.

A little way out we come across “The Blue Lagoon” a well know tourism spot , frequented by ‘coast-steerers’ and seals alike. As I write in October the lagoon access is closed by the Parks authority to protect the seals.

The coast ahead is marked by outcrops of rocks on the beaches and doesn’t look particulary accessible.

I know that one of them has a purpose built metal stairway so you can get onto it. There is a reason I’m sure but wouldn’t have thought it was just for tourism. The ‘croc’ guards the far end.

Across the top  we see white ‘obelisks’, of which there are two and it becomes clear as we approach Porthgain that they will be a guide to the harbour entrance for seafarers.

The ‘not so pretty’ excavations and broken buildings associated with Porthgain Brickworks are clear as we get close to the port.

The descent into Porthgain harbour is down steep steps which loop round and behind a small cottage.

On the final few yards into Abercastle there appear to be ‘Posts’ alongside which to me , appear to be old cannon barrels. Could it be consecrated ground with all those ‘canons’
