Pembrey Country Park to Kidwelly

This is where we start today from the lovely bright Poppies , through the park and on to Kidwelly. From planning I know we will turn away from the coast and walk through woodland to get to our destination,

Meandering through the park which is large, it isn’t long before we are on the longest piece of sandy beach I’ve seen in sometime. It stretches left and right as far as the eye can see.

Its a massive beach and we trundle westward walking steadily for probably a good hour before turning off toward Pembrey woods. Along the way we see old carcases of ‘boats long forgotten’ and the white capped waves indicate the strength of the breeze coming inshore.

The woodland is pleasant enough and we exit onto a wide expanse of marshy looking estuary with what we think is Kidwelly Castle in the distance. At some point we are on road briefly and “Miss M” spotted this which is no surprise as she is super “Animal Friendly”.

Getting closer to Kidwelly itself the bright start is now showing a “BBC” or two but this signpost took my interest as its an unusual name for a canal.

“Camlas Kvmer” what’s that all about then ?

Excuse my shadow but the history is quite interesting. ‘Coal’ related ! That’s a surprise.

The quay is derelict and blocked off from the river at Kidwelly.

An unusual ‘coastal’ walk today ends at Kidwelly.
