Y-Fellinheli to Y-Foryd

Y-Fellinheli

There is no coffee shop on this waterfront where I start today, but there is a loo and I was in need. A runner stops near to where I am standing and I assess his age to be early 20’s. He look hot and puffed out. We speak and he asks me if I have any water. I say yes but require it for myself. We chat. He has run from Bangor. That is some distance ! I offer my reserve bottle of water for which he is extremely grateful. That’s my good deed for the day.

Parked here at Y-Foryd nature reserve.

Prior to arrival at Y-Fellinheli I have parked the car at Y-Foryd and bussed back to Y-Fellinheli. Whilst waiting for the bus at Llanfaglan a farmer stops at the junction, winds down his window to chat and all I can hear is his two dogs barking full tilt at me. A ‘shut up’ command reduces the volume enough to have a conversation. We did. That whiled away a few minutes which helps because I am always early in fear of getting stranded.

Bus duly arrives and I get off in Y-Fellinheli and its a short walk to the waterfront where I will start today’s walk.

After a ‘pee’ and my good deed I am ready to proceed with today’s adventure 🙂

Just as I am about to set off a young woman appears and we exchange greetings. She needs a pee too whilst I keep an eye on her ‘gear’. We decide to walk together as we are both headed in the same direction.

Leaving Y-Fellinheli we walk uphill and take a right off the road into woodland which is pleasantly cool as its a beautiful and hot day.

‘Cool’ Woodland

From under the tree cover Anglesey is a ‘spit’ away and we are having a varied and extensive conversation. Sabrina is German and her English is excellent. We chat about families, grandparents, marriage, being independant and a few laughs are had on the way. In particular regarding ‘jammy’ and me being ‘Mr Imperial’

I tell Sabrina about me giving the ‘Big ‘c’ two fingers by trying to complete the Wales coastline aged 72 and stop myself rotting away between four walls. I invite her to introduce herself.

It isn’t long before we are on the outskirts of Caernarvon and having a laugh about me converting her kilometre distances to miles. I explain that I grew up where every measurement was ‘British’ and we didn’t do ‘decimal’ .

‘Mr Imperial’ explained ‘jammy’ which I have been; with this years weather as I have had sun every week I walked in March, April and now ‘May’

That raised a laugh before we entered Caernarvon and went our separate ways. A walk is always much ‘shorter’ with good company. Thank You Sabrina who I now think of as ‘Germanic Miss Manic’ because of the huge mileages she was walking every day during her stay in the U.K.

‘Sabrina’ continues ‘on her way’

I stop for my lunch then continue through Caernarvon by the castle and across a footbridge which was rumoured to be not always available! I had planned a contingency to get to my car at Y-Foryd. Fortunately it was not needed.

After crossing the bridge and passing the Golf course on my left its a straight walk into the nature reserve and home ‘for the day’ – Before I departed I was chatting about the ‘Big ‘C’ to a guy who is diagnosed with it. I was also given a recommend for eating establishments in the vicinity of Bangor , where I am staying for this week’s walking.
