Barry Island to West Aberthaw
Today I am on my own again and starting at Barry and walking to West aberthaw. After getting off the bus at Barry Railway station I have navigated a couple of streets to get here on the coast. Climbing the steps will reveal the beauty that is the Bristol Channel.

I am guilty of not checking the tide times today so a very helpful young man with his girlfriend laid my mind at rest. Getting around that point ahead might have been ‘dodgy’ The beach is rough walking with large stones rather than Pebbles.

The day is cool which is lovely for walking and its not long after clearing the headland that I have ascended to an open field at the edge of a residential area.

The landscape is strewn with dips and gullies and a few ponds which seems out of place. At Rhoose point I discover that ‘Blue Circle Industries PLC’ used to excavate this area. Aren’t they makers of cement for building purposes ?

I am approaching what looks like a memorial stone when I pass this sign. Apparently the most southerly point on the Welsh landscape.

I am off the shoreline now and looking at this patchwork of stone which reminds me of a giant jigsaw.

Walking through a Holiday Caravan Park and seeing the chimney of West Aberthaw power station near the end of my walk. Below and to my left are grassy areas and ponds with people picnicking and amusing themselves. It isn’t long before I come to a concrete wall which I assume is some sort of sea defence for the power station which is now close by.
